Home Insurance – Available Coverage
Quite likely the most expensive item you are going to purchase will be a home. With that much of an investment, making certain that you are adequately protected – whether from fire, flood, vandalism, even someone getting hurt on your property – makes sense (it makes dollars & cents). You can protect your home, it’s contents, your family, and visitors with a home insurance policy.
As you look for home insurance quotes, it can be good to keep in mind there are four (4) main categories of home insurance:
Homeowners –
Renters –
Condominium –
Mobile home –
Three (3) available coverages include:
Personal Property Protection – is covered by most home insurance policies. It includes such things as your furniture, clothing, appliance, computers – referred to as “movable property.” Losses from fire, burglary, vandalism, and windstorms are usually covered. This is sufficient coverage for the average homeowner, giving adequate protection for such accidents as fire damage, that could include smoke damage to other things in the home (clothing, carpets, and curtains, etc,. This would be covered under your Personal Property Protection. If your “movable property” is beyond what is considered normal you may choose to purchase additional Personal Property Protection.
Family Liability Protection – is a common insurance which protects you as a homeowner, if someone suffers bodily injury on your property and you, or a member of your household, is the cause. An auto accident is not covered under most PPP policies.
Guest Medical Coverage - It is quite likely your home insurance policy will include what is called Guest Medical Coverage, which covers any expenses (medical or others expenses) if a guest on your property is injured, again regardless of who may be at fault.
Your homeowner insurance policy typically has Dwelling Protection that will cover the loss of, or damage to, the home. This is stated in the insurance policy. Insurance is also available for structures on your property, such as a shop, barns, etc..
An All Risk policy – commonly called an Open Perils policy – is standard in homeowner’s insurance. It contains broad coverage of the home, the contents and includes liability for guests.
