It is said that nobody knows what tomorrow is to bring. This can especially be said when it comes to health.  An accident or serious illness can strike anyone, anywhere at anytime.  Medical insurance is designed to protect us if this should befall us, or a family member. 

With insurance a financial disaster could fall on the heels of a major medical situation.  Dealing with the medical problem is stressful enough, but not having the money – up front – for emergency room visits, treatments and medication can be emotionally devastating.  Even a minor accident or illness can be very costly nowadays, if all the expenses were coming out of our pocket. 

A dog may be a man's best friend, but it will not bury the medical bills in the back yard for you.  A good medical insurance policy, when the bills start coming in will look a little like your best friend (at least for the moment). 

Having medical insurance and allowing the coverage to lapse is also dangerous. We do this sometimes because of the expense of the premiums.  But if we do not have the funds to make a medical insurance payment as part of a budget where will the money come from during an illness? 

A lapsed medical insurance policy can also make it difficult for future coverage, especially if there are any congenital diseases.  Many medical insurance policies either do not cover pre-existing conditions or limitations are placed on what is covered. 

Medical insurance can only do its job if we keep it in place!
